Whether you’re staying in your home state or venturing across the country, keeping a first aid kit in your luggage or vehicle is essential. From bug bites to allergic reactions or surface wounds, the items in my travel first aid kit will have you covered (literally.) Don’t leave home without stocking yours!
Bug bites & stings -
This summer alone my daughter has suffered two bee stings. They must be attracted to her because she is so sweet! We always keep a Benadryl Itch Relief Stick and Earthley Wellness’ Black Drawing Salve* in our arsenal for all types of bites and stings. Benadryl works almost instantly to relieve the itch, but we especially love the black drawing salve because it’s a natural remedy and works well for poison ivy and splinters as well. Earthley Wellness actually has a whole first aid bundle.

Cuts & bruises -
Someone will inevitably get a minor injury on every trip, whether it’s a bump on the head, scraped knee, or something more serious. We like to keep a variety of sizes of bandages in our kit and a small bottle of helichrysum essential oil. This essential oil helps speed up the healing process, but be sure to add it to a carrier oil (I mix it with tallow balm.)
Fevers-
Unfortunately, we are not immune to sickness when we’re on a trip. Sometimes the busyness and lack of sleep on vacations can actually lead to fatigue and illness. When fevers arise on the road, we quickly treat it with Frida Baby cool pads, rest, and increased vitamins d and c (I love this supplement from JoySpring that combines vitamin c, zinc, and elderberry.) If it means we take a day off from the planned activities, so be it! We take it as an opportunity to slow down and relax.
Allergic reactions -
I have a peanut allergy and our youngest has yet to be tested for some allergens, so we always keep Benedryl (both for me and the kids) in our kit, plus an Epipen. It’s always smart to be aware of the nearest medical facilities when you’re traveling. I’ve had to visit hospitals in multiple cities across the states during our trips!
Seasonal allergies, sore throats, congestion -
My favorite weapon against the symptoms above is oregano oil capsules. They combat everything sinus related. It’s best if you can catch a symptom early on and start oregano oil immediately. On multiple occasions I have woken up with a sore throat, but killed it within hours with this supplement! If you have little ones who can’t swallow pills (mine don’t either!) hit them with ColdCalm and massage their sinuses.
Sore muscles -
Sometimes spending hours upon hours in the car, sleeping wrong in an unfamiliar bed, or forgetting you’re almost 40 and acting like you’re still one of the kids… leads to sore or pulled muscles. We keep a little tub of Tiger Balm in our kit just for this occasion!
Last, but not least, I always keep a handful of Redmond Re-Lyte hydration sticks in my purse to make sure we are all well hydrated.
Don't leave home without stocking your first aid kit!
